Mr. Li Yu, the general manager of Zhimao (Dongguan) Co., Ltd., was very honored to be invited to be the 45th East Business Interviewer.

East Business Interview: Hello! Mr. Li, Zhimao has a development history of more than 20 years. What is your chance to join? What was the company’s bold reforms later?
Li Yu: Zhimao's headquarters is in Taiwan. In 2002, it established a branch office in South China. I joined Zhimao South China Branch in 2012 and became a corporate legal representative after many measures. Zhimao is a company with more than 20 years of history. From the single-shareholding to the partner system, I joined as a “fresh blood”. From the late 1990s to the beginning of the 21st century, Taiwan-funded enterprises have good development opportunities in the market, and they have certain leading power in enterprise management and technology. However, by the end of 2010, private enterprises have developed very rapidly, in other words, self-built ability is also very strong. At that time, enterprises were in the bottleneck of development. If they continue to maintain the original methods, they will not be good at grasping the pace of market development and talent reserve.
Therefore, we have done “clearing” measures in two aspects: the first is to boldly activate newcomers and change the previous “big pot” mode. The “big pot” model has limited the development of new employees and led to their loss. After deep internal thinking and making a reform, we will make a comprehensive score based on our own ability and the company's contribution. For each key position, the staff will no longer take a single supervisor or boss rating, but instead use all colleagues. Its rating. The second is to change the inherent way of doing things and to implement a method with a competitive mechanism, which represents a conceptual zero. As a result, everyone’s enthusiasm is high and cohesion is getting stronger.
Dongshang Interview: Why is it confident to propose the goal of making the board machine product the first brand in the industry? What kind of strategic planning does the company have in this regard?
Li Yu: Because the products that Zhimao did before were quite rich, like a palm with five fingers each, they have been strategically adjusted to use the splitter as a fist product. When focusing on a product, research and development, speed of technology update, and market acumen are greatly enhanced. Through the combination of software positioning and management, the company has made great breakthroughs in 2013-2014, and the confidence has become more firm. At the same time, it has proposed the goal of making the sub-board products grow into the industry's first brand within five years. Therefore, at present, Zhimao is already in the forefront of the industry. Of course, we have to go a long way and work hard.
Zhimao has been insisting on quality for so many years. The cost of stand-alone hardware in 2015 has increased by 12% compared with 2014. In the case of increasingly thin profits, it is up to the company to think strategically, that is, to make the future possible. The costs incurred are applied to the equipment itself in advance, reducing labor costs and maintenance costs. Intense competition in the market will lead to some companies reducing their investment in order to get the most profit, resulting in users being hurt. In recent years, Zhimao's rapid development is precisely because it insists on giving the most solid products to users, and finds that problems will continue to improve. In the first quarter of 2016, after statistics, the return rate of old customers reached more than 60%, which represented their recognition of the quality and service of Zhimao. So we are more determined by our confidence.
In the next three to four years, more attention will be paid to the product itself. How to grasp customer needs, improve user experience, and how to obtain a bigger market are all our efforts. As for the plan after reaching this goal, the individual feels that pragmatism is the most important thing to do well now.
Interview with Dongshang: Is there any difficulty in the initial management of people with technical background? Have a solid technical foundation, what is the pursuit of products in business management?
Li Yu: In addition to the types of business origins and family inheritance, corporate bosses also have representatives of enterprises that focus on technology and pay more attention to user needs. In the early days, there were some difficulties in talent management. Because I have been working in the technical field for nearly ten years, the management requirements are also very high, which makes it difficult for some employees to adapt. In order to turn passive into initiative, Zhimao provides learning opportunities and selects some colleagues to participate in team building courses. I will also go to study. This course is not a matter of teaching, but a concept of conveying a person with a sense of mission. When we do things with a sense of mission, we do not need too much demand, but do it spontaneously.
As a technical aspect, more is to win the trust of customers through quality. Because I know the industry very well, I hope that the products I make will be different from the competitors and even surpass them, and not only do our own obligations, but hope to make a certain contribution to the society. For young people who are technically born and want to start a business, personal advice is to operate in an industry, to "zero" themselves, accept new ideas, and learn endlessly.
East Business Interview: When did the company think of passing the product + the Internet? What are the opinions on the current industrial upgrading of manufacturing enterprises and the attraction of young people to join?
Li Yu: Products are a prerequisite for manufacturing, and the Internet is an important application. Now the company's team is getting younger and younger. Compared with the post-60s and 70s, or without much experience in the industry, the circle of people also needs a long time to accumulate. When we see that new colleagues are not particularly ideal in market development, we will think about how to make them grow fast. So in 2014, I tried the network promotion through Alibaba for the first time. After the later exploration, I made a big breakthrough in the second half of 2015. Network sales are different from traditional offline models, allowing customers to find us, and we can get more market information and touch customers. At the same time, through the cooperation with Jielian Technology, we have made a new design and layout on the official website of the company for the user experience and communication.
The manufacturing industry should attract young people. Personally, the first is to locate more advanced products, and the second is talent management. In fact, many young people are now reluctant to go to the production line. In this situation, new concepts are needed to realize robots and unmanned operating environments, which can effectively improve efficiency and save manpower. At the same time, it is important to have a good corporate culture to convey the correct values, working environment and working atmosphere.
Interview with Dongshang: What are the key factors that you think the company can continue to grow? What kind of vision do you have?
Li Yu: A company must have expertise, creativity, and a sense of social responsibility in a certain field.
